Bearsville Theater Auditorium

Bearsville Theater Auditorium

The Theater was designed as a Listening Room for Albert Grossman to showcase his artists to the music industry in the 1980’s. Because this was its purpose, the room has top quality acoustics – both the design of the room, and the technology that supports it – making it perfect for private concerts, receptions and dance parties.    The new owners have installed crystal chandeliers, audience and feature lighting, and other aspects to enhance the experience of enjoying time in this special and unique space.

Our stage is illuminated by George and Stanley, two Golden Gods holding antique art deco glass lanterns who stand guard over every event.

The magical VIP balcony at the rear of the room allows you to look through the crystal chandeliers onto the jewel box of our stage.

All your guests will experience an all-round immersive experience of sound, light and creature comforts. The Bearsville Theater’s auditorium offers a sophisticated light show and theatrical experience to make your impressive private party or wedding reception perfect in every way.

Bearsville Theater Lounge

The Bearsville Theater Lounge is ideal for easy socializing and cocktails. It is decorated in a Mid-Century Modern style, with a starry ceiling, a geometric bar front and a cool, comfortable vibe. The sunken bar easily serves parties of up to 120 with Woodstock-themed and classic cocktails, plus craft beers and a comprehensive wine list. On a small stage in the lounge, we often host the jazz and folk artists who are an integral part of Woodstock’s vibrant music scene.

Art on the walls features larger-than life portraits of the big ‘Bearsville Bears’ —Albert Grossman, Bob Dylan, Todd Rundgren and Paul Butterfield — who now face new Bears — the women of Woodstock — in fresh contemporary portraits.

Bearsville Theater Deck

Bearsville Theater Deck

Our 40’ x 15’ Creekside deck adjoining the Lounge is a perfect space for friendly get-togethers of 30 people (seated) or up to 50 (standing). The deck is named after two old friends — John Sebastian and Fred Neil — who hung out here in the 70’s, writing songs and making music together.

The Bear Cafe

Albert created the Bear Café restaurant in the 1980’s to wine and dine the world-famous musicians recording at his legendary Bearsville Studios. His cuisine connected the artists to the beauty and bounty of the Catskills in an atmosphere of stylish celebration.

Today, our Chef Josh Rajala and General Manager Christopher J. Hack are re-interpreting Albert’s philosophy: They create outstanding cuisine, delivered with warmth and hospitality, to carry forward the spirit of Albert ‘The Bear’ himself.

All or part of our 66-seat restaurant — and an additional 40 seats on its outside Creekside patio — may be reserved for rehearsal dinners, wedding breakfasts or any combination you choose to enhance your wedding at Bearsville. Large windows overlooking the Sawkill Creek provide lovely views of our mountain stream and a fireplace in an adjoining dining area completes this restaurant’s cozy ambience.

Our walls are lined with photographs from Bearsville’s illustrious history, including never-before-printed pictures of influential artists such as Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, The Band and more contemporary musicians such as The Lumineers.

Elegant and artistic, The Bear Cafe offers you the best of the Catskills for your rehearsal dinner, wedding breakfast, an intimate dinner for two or whatever you desire to make your wedding celebrations memorable and delicious.
